Olver could join older brother in Berlin

Olver could join older brother in BerlinDuring the NHL lockout, more and more players from the NHL are crossing the Atlantic ocean to play for European teams.

Semyon Varlamov for example already signed a contract with his former Russian team Yaroslavl. After the rumors about Gabriel Landeskog (Rosenborg from Norway and Djurgardens in the Swedish B-League) another rumor about an Avs-player came up in a German online newspaper. According to the website of the Berliner Zeitung, Darin Olver tries to get his brother Mark Olver to his team in the German capital Berlin.

Mark Olver's brother Darin (27 years old) is a topscorer in the German hockey league DEL. He plays for the Polar Bears Berlin and has been a part of the organization since 2011. He lives in Germany from 2007 and played for three different teams before coming to Berlin. He appeared in the six AHL games and was never called up to the NHL. He was drafted from the 36th place by New York Rangers in 2004.

Darin recently gave an interview with journalists from the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung. Main focus of the short interview is clearly the possibility of getting his brother Mark to his team if the lockout goes on for a few more weeks or months. "If Mark is deciding to play in Europe, I will definitely try to convince him to come to Berlin. This hockey team is one of the most professional teams in Europe", Darin said. However, the insurance fee issues might also play a role in a possible agreement between Mark and the management of the Polar Bears.

Colorado Avalanche selected Mark in 2008. He played in 42 NHL games and gained 16 points. He spent most of his professional career in the AHL playing for Lake Erie Monsters. He signed new contract with the Avs this summer for the next two seasons. According to Darin, Mark is very frustrated about the situation with the lockout, as he was very motivated for the upcoming season. There is nothing official yet, but he thinks already about switching to Europe if the CBA-discussions go on as before

Nevertheless, the management also clearly stated that they are evaluating options about possible signings of NHL players, which possibly indicates that they probably are willing to pay the price. For Darin, it would be a dream come true to play with his brother in one professional hockey team: "We played as small kids together on the pond, but never in a professional hockey club".
