Varlamov´s first shutout, Landy no point

Varlamov´s first shutout, Landy no pointTwo Avs players played on Saturday, the full day of European hockey.

The first to play was Semyon Varlamov, who was in net for his current employer, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. In a battle of tactics, almost every shot was dangerous. Nonetheless, Varlamov kept his cool and stopped every single shot of 24. Lokomotiv won 2:0  against Cherepovec. This was his first shutout of the season. Overall, Varly has an impressive season so far.

Of the 8 games he started, Yaroslavl lost only 2. His other stats are as impressive as his overall record. His current GAA stands at 2.07 (ranks him 10th in the league) and his save percentage is 93.4% (9th in the league). It's safe to say that Varly is currently the best goalie of the bunch of puckstopper, that went to the KHL because of the lockout.

The second Av to play on Saturday was the captain Gabriel Landeskog, currently playing for Djurgaardens IF of the second-tier swedish league Allsvenskan. He had his debut in the first line, his linemates were Bremberg and Aberg. The debut didn't go as planned, as Landy was held pointless for the third straight game. It's not just Landy who's slumping, it's the whole team. The team's 4-2 loss against Södertälje was their 3rd in a row. As it's slowly becoming a tradition, Djurgaardens once again got into a fight with the opposing team. Landy wasn't involved, his only PIM were due to penalties in the 2nd period. Södertälje scored on 1 of the 2 man-advantages.

Landy has to date totaled 6 points (4 goals, 2 assists) in his 8 games in Sweden, but has been slumping lately, though he still makes contributions on the ice. It's just a matter of time before he gets his game going once again.
