Avs host Blues

Avs host BluesPreseason games usually give players a chance to get a feel for game situations, and coaches to evaluate players in training camp.

Prospects and rookies get a chance to experience the pace and tempo of the NHL game, and play alongside veterans of the league. So despite dropping their preseason opener in Dallas last night by a score of 5-2, the outcome wasn't indicative of how the Avalanche played.

Rookies Tyson Barrie and Brad Malone each had two-point nights (1g/1a) and Gabriel Landeskog finished with a game-high seven hits.  Last night's opener served as Malone and Landeskog's NHL preseason debuts.

The Avalanche finished the game with 39 hits, and were 2-for-6 on the PP. Goaltender Calvin Pickard stopped 6-of-8 shots in 29:16 TOI, and Trevor Cann brushed aside 14-of-16 in 30:22 TOI.

The Avalanche host the St. Louis Blues at Pepsi Center, 7:00 p.m. MT. St. Louis is currently 1-1 in preseason action.  The Blues were shutout at home by a score of 1-0 by the Minnesota Wild last night. Blues forward Chris Stewart tallied three points (1g/2a) in the September 21 contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
