Interview with Hejduk: Will he work for Avs?
Czech newspaper Daily Sport did an interview with Milan Hejduk who is currently in Czech Republic. Eurolanche translated most interesting answers. Is Colorado Avalanche definitely a history?
Yes, it is over. We talked about that with Joe Sakic recently. He told me that I
am a player for two top lines and they have covered them already. It would not
be worth to play in the third or fourth line. So the only option is playing
for some other team. And I am not sure if I want that. After last season, I was sure I
would retire. Then me and my agent decided to leave it open and we will see what
the market brings. I can retire anytime.
Do you know if your agent is getting some offers for you?
I have no idea if there is some chance or not. Honestly,
I do not know what the offer should be that I would accept. I do not want to
move after so many years at the same place. It would have to be worth it financially
to go to somewhere else. And I would need good conditions for my kids who play
a hockey.
There
were expectations that the Colorado Avalanche would change the opinion about you
after Joe Sacco left. So no changes in their opinion?
No. They told me that one month after season ended. I
wanted to hear the true so none of the sides would worry.
You
were the face of the Avalanche franchise. Don´t you min how it ended?
I was ready to retire this year… I was thinking about
one more year in Denver after Sacco left. But the team has decided
otherwise. I am 37 and I cannot make big plans. Colorado have young team and
want to go in different way. It is their right.
Did
you get an offer from the Phoenix Coyotes as was reported in some rumors?
I do not know. My agent did not call me. Probably they
did not call him or their offer was not interesting.
Nothing
happens if you are not getting any offer...?
Right. If there is something, it would be good. If not, nothing bad happens. I was ready to retire anyway.
Isn´t it a shame tha you will probably retire without any ceremony?
I am not a ceremony guy so I am not going to
organize anything. Why would I? (smiling)
You
will fly back to Denver (from Czech Republic) in the same time as usual. Won´t you be bored without ice- hockey?
I do not think so. I will take care about kids, will be training them. Maybe there will be some work for the Colorado Avalanche in the
future. We talked about it years ago. We will see, for now I have no idea.
