Member story: Tomas from Czech Republic

Tomas has been a longtime fan of the Avalanche – he became a fan after the franchise’s relocation to Denver in 1995. "I started rooting for the team mostly because I really liked the graphic design of the logo, which I’ve always considered and still consider one of the nicest," explained Tomas. He watched his first NHL games on the now-defunct Czech TV channel Galaxie Sport and devoted himself to collecting hockey cards. Being an Avs fan was sometimes hard for him, mostly because Dominik Hasek dominated at that time, but Tomas has his say on this: "I've always stood behind Patrick Roy, he’s still my favorite player.“

Aside from being a responsible fan, Tomas is an employee at the Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague. He is in charge of the preliminary security check. He is one of the people who are responsible that a plane does not take off with any unauthorized or dangerous objects. "I check empty planes from the inside, outside, the luggage space and the availability of life jackets. Then, I wait for the aircraft personnel and show them the results of the inspection. The pilot then signs a document for me and I can go back to my workplace,” said Tomas about his job. “Once, I found a dummy knife aboard. It was part of an exercise, which I obviously didn’t know about beforehand,” said Tomas, also an avid fan of wrestling, which is kind of an exotic sport in the Czech Republic, but has its supporters and fighters.

Tomas became a member of Eurolanche four years ago and can‘t wait to participate in a Eurolanche Invasion, because, as he described it, it would be a totally unforgettable experience. "To put it short, the Colorado Avalanche and Denver, where our favorite team is and plays its home games, is a combination of both a great hockey experience and a breathtaking countryside and much more. That’s why people from all around the world travel there,” said Tomas, who lives in Kladno, the city the legendary Jaromír Jagr comes from.
