Avs acquire McGinn, Connolly, SgarbossaThey got it from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for forwards T.J. Galiardi, Daniel Winnik and a seventh-round selection in the 2013 Entry Draft.

“Jamie McGinn will help our team immediately,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman“At only 23 years of age, he already has significant NHL experience and will contribute at both ends of the ice.  We are also excited to be picking up two young prospects.”

McGinn, 23, has appeared in all 61 games for the Sharks this season, tallying 24 points (12g/12a).  The Fergus, Ontario native leads San Jose with 137 hits.  San Jose’s second selection (second round, 36th overall) in the 2006 Entry Draft, McGinn has collected 49 points (27g/22a) in 204 NHL games.  The 6-foot-1, 210-pound left wing has also dressed in 22 playoff contests.

Connolly, 22, is in his first professional season after spending the last three years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth (WCHA).  The Calgary native is currently playing for San Jose’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Worcester Sharks, where he is tied for second on the team with 30 points (10g/20a) in 40 games.  Connolly was signed by San Jose as a free agent on April 15, 2011.

Sgarbossa, 19, currently ranks second in the Ontario Hockey League in scoring with 84 points (41g/43a) in 57 games for the Sudbury Wolves.  He leads the OHL with 15 power-play goals and his 41 goals overall are tied for second in the league.   The Campbellville, Ontario native was signed by San Jose as a free agent on Sept. 20, 2010.
