Landeskog named NHL Rookie of the month

Landeskog
edged New York Rangers left wing Carl Hagelin (3-6=9 in 13 games),
Chicago Blackhawks center Marcus Kruger (5-2=7 in 14 games), New
Jersey Devils center Adam Henrique (2-5=7 in 11 games), Philadelphia
Flyers center Brayden Schenn (4-1=5 in 13 games) and Carolina
Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk (3-2=5 in 11 games) for the
award.
Landeskog ranked third among all skaters with 55 shots
and led all rookies with a +9 rating. He closed the month on a
six-game point streak, recording five goals and five assists as the
Avalanche won five of six games to move within a point of the eighth
seed in the Western Conference. Landeskog leads all rookies in shots
(208) and plus/minus (+21), is tied for the lead in goals (18) and is
second in points (40) in 65 games. He also ranks in the top five
among freshmen skaters in assists (22), power-play goals (four),
power-play points (nine) and game-winning goals (three).
Selected
by the Avalanche in the first round (second overall) of the 2011 NHL
Draft, Landeskog joins Edmonton Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
(October and November), New Jersey Devils center Adam Henrique
(December) and Buffalo Sabres center Cody Hodgson (January) as Rookie
of the Month award winners this season.
