Invasion X: Interview with Marek

Marek Korber, 28, comes from Kunovice, Czech Republic. He works for SAB Finance, which calculates and provides foreign exchange rates. He’s been a Colorado Avalanche fan since 1998, the same year he began to follow the NHL in general. Marek’s been a Eurolanche member since 2016 and this will be his first trip to Denver.

Why did you decide to go to Colorado?

I’ve always dreamt of seeing the Avalanche play in the Pepsi Center in person. When Eurolanche presented the opportunity to attend Avalanche games in the US, I didn’t hesitate. It’s the biggest dream of each Colorado fan.

What are you looking forward to the most?

I’m looking forward to the games and the meetings with players. In terms of opponents, the game against Nashville is the one I’m looking forward to the most. They have a great team and a very talented roster. I also hope that I’ll get to see Jaromir Jagr, as this will most likely be his last season in the NHL. It’s going to be awesome to see stars like MacKinnon, Josi, Subban, Toews and Patrick Kane play right in front of me.

What are your expectations from the trip?

Aside from the games, I expect to visit interesting and beautiful places in Colorado, Chicago and Columbus. I’m really curious to see what the atmosphere at the Avs’ home games compared to the one back home in the Czech Republic. I also expect to collect some autographs from the players and buy some Avs souvenirs. I’d also like to go to other sport events, to an NBA game to be more precise, and broaden my collection of Avs memorabilia even further. Overall, I’m looking forward to spending two awesome weeks with big Avalanche fans and that we’ll enjoy the games and our trips throughout the US.

Did you follow previous Invasions? If so, what stood out the most for you and what would you like to experience as well?

Yes, I followed previous Invasions via Eurolanche’s website. For me personally, photos with players, highlighted by photos with stars like Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg stood out the most.

You’ll attend a total of seven games. What record will the Avs have in those games and what game are you looking forward to the most?

It goes without saying that I’d love to see the Avs win each game, but I predict that they’ll win 4 and lose 3 games. The games I’m looking forward to the most are, as I previously mentioned, the one against Nashville and the game against the Blackhawks in Chicago.

Have you ever travelled so far, or participated in an event like this before? How do you feel just a couple of weeks until the trip begins?

I’ve never travelled so far before. I’ve attended the Avs’ games in Sweden, but I expected the atmosphere in Denver to be different. I cannot wait for the trip to already begin!
