Transcript of the chat with Adrian Dater

Transcript of the chat with Adrian DaterAdrian Dater organized random chat at his blog at the Denver Post website. Here are most interesting answers.

Q: Break out/surprise player this season?

A: My breakout/surprise player? That's easy: Stefan Elliott. Mark him down for 40 points.

Q: Since we have so many Avs on twitter at the moment, do you think more players will join during the season, or will it be shut down?

A: No, Avs will allow the Twitter stuff I'm sure. But they DO monitor what is said, and anybody who says something a bit risque will be told to knock that off I'm sure (Here are Avs players on Twitter that I know of, off top of head: Dutchy, Gally, Winnik, Gaunce, Hishon, O´Byrne...)

David from Eurolanche: What we can expect from Landeskog? Will he play better than Duchene?

A: David - that would be an awful lot to ask for a rookie. I say Dutchy puts up 69 points or so. Landy gets 38 or so.

Q: Do you think that the Avs have a core to compete for a Cup in the next 2-3 seasons?

A: A Cup? Ummm, not without more size, toughness and overall depth.

Q: Could you see the Avs winning the NW this year if Vancouver has a major Goaltending Controversy?

A: No. Van will win it again. Avs need to focus just on making playoffs - and staying out of a lottery pick (Van, Cgy, Colo, Minn., Edm).

Q: What's the status on Peter Mueller these days? And do you see him being a productive player for the Avs going forward?

A: Mueller still hasn't talked, and the Avs still have him listed as on injured reserve. That said, the latest I've heard is he'll be there at camp.

Q: Do you see any more interesting signings by the avs in the near future? there is still some money to be spent.

A: No.

Q: How short of a leash will Sacco be on? Does he have to make this Avalanche team a playoff team in order to keep his job?

A: He'll be on a medium leash I'd say. If team is last in December (in division or conference) he'll be packing I'd predict.

Q: Are the Avalanche a playoff team this year?

A: Probably not.

Q: In my opinion Liles was a huge loss. Your thoughts?

A: I don't think it was huge, though I appreciate Liles. I just think it was time to move on in a way. I think they think Elliott and Barrie will make up for his offensive loss.

David from Eurolanche: If will not Paul Stastny play better than last season, it will be his last season as the Av?

A: It might, but will any team want to take a $6.6 million cap hit for a disappointing player, entering a new CBA year?

Q: Is there any reason, other than he likes basketball more, that Josh Kroenke seems to speak about the Nuggets much more than the Avs? When is the last time he was at an Avalanche press conference? He is always front and center with the Nuggets.

A: Great question Jhan. One of my top goals of 2011-12 is to say hi to Josh Kroenke, or at least see the man. No, I've never done either. And yes, I've asked

Q: Gut call, do the Phoenix Coyotes exist a year from now? If not, where are they?

A: I'll say Phoenix will reside in either Seattle or Quebec next year

David from Eurolanche: Who will you miss from the last season roster?

A: I still think Avs will miss Craig Anderson. Anybody catch his stats with Ottawa after the trade? 11-5-1, 2.05 GAA, .939 SP.

Q: Who has had the best sense of humor from the Avalanche?

A: Probably Galiardi.

Q: Sorry, late to the discussion, but I don't think it's been asked yet. Any update on what's happening with Cumiskey? Avs have him listed on their site, but Cap Geek doesn't have him signed anywhere.

A: He's just not signed yet. I am starting to think they only tendered him to get over the cap floor, but we'll see at camp
