Avalanche sign Parenteau and ZanonColorado Avalanche signed 2 players on free market.

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward P.A. Parenteau to a four-year contract through the 2015-16 season.

Parenteau, 29, recorded 67 points (18g/49a) and 89 penalty minutes in 80 games with the New York Islanders last season.  He finished third on the Islanders in points, while ranking second in both assists and penalty minutes.  The right winger was fifth in goals and third in power-play goals (6).  Parenteau’s 67 points were a career high.

” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman“He’s a dynamic player who will help our power play and compliment our young centers.”

A native of Hull, Quebec, Parenteau has registered 129 points (41g/88a) and 141 penalty minutes in 188 career NHL games.  He scored 20 goals (20g/33a) in his first season with the Islanders in 2010-11, which included a team-high tying nine power-play markers.


Selected by Anaheim in the ninth round (264th overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft, Parenteau began his NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2006-07 (five games).  He dressed in 22 games for the New York Rangers in 2009-10 before signing as a free agent with the Islanders on July 2, 2010.


The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed defenseman Greg Zanon to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season.

Zanon, 32, split the 2011-12 season between Minnesota and Boston, recording eight points (3g/5a) with a +3 plus/minus rating in 56 combined games between the two teams.  The Burnaby, B.C., native began the year with the Wild, tallying six points (2g/4a) in 39 games.  Acquired by Boston on Feb. 27, Zanon collected two points (1g/1a) in 17 contests for the Bruins.  He went on to dress in all seven playoff games for Boston, picking up one assist.

said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman“We are pleased to have him under contract and look forward to him joining our organization.”

Selected by Ottawa in the fifth round (156th overall) of the 2000 Entry Draft, Zanon has appeared in 449 career games, totaling 56 points (12g/44a).  He spent parts of four seasons with Nashville (2005-06 to 2008-09), two-plus seasons with Minnesota (2009-10 to 2011-12) and finished the 2011-12 campaign with Boston.  He has also skated in 18 career playoff games (0g/5a).
