Left winger inks two-year deal; Avs sign six others.
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Jamie McGinn to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season.
McGinn, 23, was acquired from San Jose at the trade deadline on Feb. 27, and went on to record 13 points (8g/5a) in 17 games with the Avalanche. McGinn’s 13 points tied Paul Stastny for the most on the team from March 1 until the end of the season. Combined between the Sharks and Avalanche, the left winger set career highs in games (78), goals (20), assists (17), points (37), power-play goals (6) and shots (159).
“Jamie made an immediate impact from the time he joined our organization,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “We look forward to Jamie building upon last season’s performance and are pleased to have agreed to contract terms.”
McGinn tallied seven goals (7g/2a) in his first eight games with Colorado, becoming the first Avalanche player to score seven times in his first eight games with the team since Marek Svatos in 2005. McGinn picked up his first career multi-goal game on March 4 at Minnesota, his first career "Gordie Howe hat trick" on March 6 vs. Minnesota and recorded his second multi-goal game, which included the tying marker with less than two seconds left in regulation, on March 14 at Buffalo.
San Jose’s second selection (second round, 36th overall) in the 2006 Entry Draft, McGinn has collected 62 points (35g/27a) in 221 NHL games. The Fergus, Ontario native has also dressed in 22 playoff contests.
In addition to McGinn, the Avalanche today officially announced the signing of forward Mark Olver to a two-year contract, as well as the signings of forwards Bryan Lerg, Bill Thomas and Geoff Walker, along with defensemen Thomas Pock and Sean Sullivan, each to a one-year contract.
