I was supposed to write about the Monsters. I will, but just bear with me a little.
I really wanted to talk about the Monsters. I'm up to my eyeballs in work, but I still manage to watch most of the games. The guys are good, entertaining and they show promise. But right now I'm all about the lockout.

Enough!

I really wanted to talk about the Monsters. I'm up to my eyeballs in work, but I still manage to watch most of the games. The guys are good, entertaining and they show promise. But right now I'm all about the lockout.
Because in my demented dreams I really thought there will be a season. I really thought the jerks that rule the NHL and the NHLPA give a crap about hockey and not only about their already fat wallets. Was I wrong on that one!
My son is 5 and my nephew is 4. I've seen them have more mature fights than what is going on right now between Bettman, Fehr and the rest of the gang. The minute they started talking to the press again I was deflated. And that's the biggest punishment that we have to endure. They give us hope, and they yank it away, probably laughing maniacally.
And the weird part is you read what one of the sides says and you go, "Hey, these guys are right." And you read the other side's version and you say, "Wait a minute, THESE guys are right". Because they're good at talking. They're two well oiled PR machines. They're more interested in winning the PR war then they are in bringing hockey.
And forget about the fans. They never did and they never will care about them. Sure, they'll talk the talk. "We apologize to the fans", "the best fans in the world", "we're doing this for the fans too"... Do they hear the fans saying how disgusted they are seeing billionaires and millionaires fighting over tons of money that you, me and everybody else put in front of them? Do they hear the little guy getting fired because he was working at the bar near the local arena that doesn't get enough costumers because there are no games? The lady selling tickets at the arena that was fired for the same reason?
Of course, they're not as important as the mighty players and the mighty owners. You don't count if you don't have hundreds of thousands and millions and billions in your account. So sorry, Steve from the pub, you are the greatest fan in the world, but you just got fired because players don't want their contracts to be a maximum of five years and the owners don't want to pay the contracts that they signed.

I'm sick of it. So I'll stop looking for the lockout updates every morning. I'll enjoy other things. Hockey too, because there's still AHL and there's enough talent there too. And maybe I'll read more. Watch some movies. Because there's plenty to do in life besides the NHL.
But you know what angers me the most? That whenever this negotiation will be over, they'll come back and say "thank you, fans, you are the greatest". Like they'd care. They don't. And I know it won't happen, but I just wish that when the puck will drop on the first day of the NHL season, whether this year or the next, nobody watches the games. Not in the arena, not at home, not in a bar. Just for a day. Just a little taste of their own medicine. I know, I'm dreaming. But it would be so nice... "If you don't care, we don't care. And you know what? The money you were all fighting about... Yeah... You're not getting it."
That was my only rant about the lockout, regardless if it lasts one more day or two seasons. Next, back to the Monsters.
