Duchene and Team Canada

Duchene and Team CanadaOur very perspective talent, Matt Duchene, played in yesterday’s game of Team Canada versus Adler Mannheim. How is he doing in the national team so far?

Matt Duchene, born 1/16/1991 was drafted in 2009 of the third place overall by the Colorado Avalanche. He made his debut well and has become the part of the team quickly. He is a huge prospect but his last season was not ideal at all, which led to his first absence at the World Championship 2012.

In spite of his a bit unsuccesful last season, he has received an invitation to the upcoming Spengler Cup.

Canada’s line-up contains mostly of young talents and a few experienced veterans. Matt can take this invitation as a chance to prove that he truly belongs to the national team of Canada.

So far Matt played at the World Championship 2010 in Germany, where he shined and collected 7 points in 7 games for 4+3. We can say he was the star of Canada but after all, Canada ended disastrous due to the elimination by Russia in the quarterfinals. The World Championship 2011 did not end well for both, Matt and Canada. He did not gain a point in 7 games.

His overall stats in the national team: 14 games, 4 goals and 3 assists. Average .5 point per game is not bad at all. Lets hope Matt will make well and he will become the core of the national team, which could have positive effect for his Avs performace.

Good luck, Matt!
