Avs fall to PHX in OTAvs lose first OT game of the year

The Colorado Avalanche looks to get a win against the Phoenix Coyotes. Starting for the Avs Forwards: Matt Duchene, Jamie McGinn, PA Parenteau; Defense: Greg Zanon, Erik Johnson; Goalie: Semyon Varlamov.

The Avs come out with some good jump early. They soon find themselves back in a regular spot with Sgarbossa in the box. The Avs do kill off the PK.  The Coyotes take the early lead in the game. The Avs get a PP with a chance to tie the game up. The Avs get some good chances on the PP but no goals. McLeod tries to get the Avs back in the game mentally by putting up a good fight. O’Brien takes a penalty to put the Avs back on the PK. The Avs go two for two on the PK in the first. The First period end with PHX up 1-0

The Avs start the second period off on a good note. Mark Olver scores to get the game tied at 1-1. Hejduk and O’Byrne get the assists. Bordeleau gets into a fight with Biznasty of Twitter fame.  The good fortune continues as Duchene gets a breakaway and puts it home to give the Avs a 2-1 lead. Parenteau assists on the goal. The Avs go on the PP for the second time in this game. They fail to convert going 0/2 on the PP so far.  The Avs go on the PK to end the period. With just under a minute left the avs have to go on a 5-3 kill. A big save by Varly helps the Avs kill it off to end the second up 2-1.

The Avs start the third still on the PK. They successfully kill it off. The Avs are quickly back on the PK with McGinn in the box. After putting up pressure for most of the third the Coyotes finally get a goal. Tie the game up 2-2. The Avs lose both Johnson and McGinn to injuries in the third. McGinn comes back while Johnson does not. The Avs get a PP with just over 2 minutes in the third. The Avs fail to convert but get another PP with 18 seconds left in the game. The Avs go to OT for the first time this season.

The Avs begin OT on the PP. The Avs fail to convert on the PP once again. Mike Smith continues to impress in the game. The Avs lose it after Doan gets the OT goal.
