The Avs embarrass themselves in the loss

The Avs embarrass themselves in the lossAvs take huge lead early then embarrass themselves in the loss.

The Avs look to get a second win in a row against the Oilers. Starting for the Avalanche Forwards: Matt Duchene, Jamie McGinn, PA Parenteau; Defense: Jan Hejda, Tyson Barrie; Goalie: Semyon Varlamov. Not changes to the Avs line up after that win against the Wild. Meaning Sgarbossa is a scratch and pretty much everyone else out is injured.

The Avs get on the board early. Cody McLeod scores the goal assisted by Hedjuk and Mitchell. Varly makes some solid saves fighting off some Oiler advances. The Oilers put on some big pressure late in the period. Varly stands tall and bails the Avs out making some great save. His best coming on a cross crease slide robbing Taylor Hall. After lots of pressure by the Oilers the Avs strike hard. Duchene scores a highlight reel goal to put the Avs up 2-0. Then Duchene makes a great pass on the very next play to feed McGinn for a goal putting the Avs up 3-0. Not too long after McLeod takes a penalty and the Avs PK gives up a goal in the first few seconds. The period ends Avs up 3-1.

The Avs draw a penalty early on in the second. The Avs PP looking horrible early on with the most effective player being Varly making saves. But once again Duchene gets the puck and takes over. He gets the puck to McGinn who gives it off to Mitchell for the PP goal to put the Avs up 4-1. The Oiler took another penalty just a few minutes later. The Avs have some good chance but don’t score on their second PP. Late in the second the Oilers score again making it 4-2 in favour of the Avs.  The Oilers get another quick one make the Avs defense look like chumps. The Avs take a late period penalty but manage to kill it off. The second ends with the Avs up 4-3.

The Oilers are all over the Avs early in the third. They draw penalty to go on the PP. The Avs defense is lost on the Oilers PP. Once again though Varly is outstanding for the Avs keeping them in the game and killing off the PK.  Not too long after the Oilers go back on the PP. This time Varly couldn’t hold the fort and the game is tied at 4-4.  After the Avs finally get some shot on the Knabby they draw a penalty to go on the PP. They don’t score. The Oiler then strike back taking the lead and then add an empty net goal to embarrass the Avs.

The Avs loss this game all on their own. You can blame injuries you can blame the coach you can blame the Refs you can blame the Owners. At the end of the night it is another pathetic loss for this team and that is all that matters.

Side note-chose Avs celebration photo cause I thought it was Ironically funny.
