Avs fire away but can’t winAvs lose in Detroit

The Avs faceoff against the Wings tonight it was once a huge rivalry. Lately it has been all Wings and no playoff fights because the Avs don’t make them. Starting for the Avs  Forwards: Matt Duchene, Jamie McGinn, PA Parenteau; Defense: Jan Hejda, Tyson Barrie; Goalie: J.S. Giguere.

The first period is full of some back and forth chances. Both goalies make some solid saves for their teams. No penalties are called and no goals are scored in the first. Shots were pretty even with the Wings ahead by 12 to 11 in the first.

The second is much like the first period. Finally the Wings get on the score sheet with a goal to take a 1-0 lead. The Wings are also the first team to end up in the box. The Avs do not score on their first PP of the game. Late in the second the Wings get another goal to go up 2-0 on the Avs.  The second period ends with the Avs down by two and trailing in shots 23-21.

Howard makes a huge save keep the Avs off the scoreboard. The Avs take their first penalty of the game and then of course on that kill the Avs take another one to go 5-3 once a game. The Avs do kill it off and manage to not give up a PP goal.  The Avs finally get on the board late in the period with Jiggy pulled. Statsny gets the goal assisted by Parenteau and Hunwick. They pull Jiggy once again with just over a minute to go to try to tie it up.  It is not good enough though as the Avs lose 2-1.  Howard made a lot of saves how many of those shots were really good I couldn’t tell ya all I know is it’s another loss.
