Avs on WC (9): Avs scoring winning goals

Avs on WC (9): Avs scoring winning goalsAlong with the daily results, we also focus on Avs players at WC.

No, not even on Saturday we will not give you a piece as another game day has came to an end of this year´s IIHF World Championship.

Team USA is reaching for Quarterfinals and today´s game against France should have just confirmed that. 3 points are added as expected, however the performance was not top notch at all. France gathered some new level of self-confident (after beating team Russia) and was a tough team to beat today. Winning goal was scored by captain Paul Stastny and what an important goal that was! Stastny proved that he was chosen wisely as captain and leader of USA Team. Defenders Johnson and Hunwick were scoreless.

Second game of the day with Avs franchise appearance was Switzerland – Denmark. Switzerland being the biggest surprise of this tournament showed again that they are a very strong team and beat Denmark 4-1. Markus Lauridsen in team Denmark didn´t add any point to his record.

After two periods of the game Finland – Austria it all seemed to be decided. Fins had a comfortable 3:0 lead and were controlling the game. After 3 minutes of the 3rd period though, lots of fans got frozen when they saw score 3:2! After that, Fins scored another 4 goals and got a safe win after all. Thomas Pock played whole game for team Austria and didn´t score any points.

Home team of Tre Kronor faced an easiest opponent within the group today – Slovenia. Since Belarus team can´t be relegated (next WC is hosted by them), Slovenia is the biggest candidate to get relegated. But on the ice, reality was slightly different. Swedes were struggling to score some goals when Gabriel Landeskog hit the net and gave Sweden a 1:0 lead. Second and final goal was scored in the 3rd period and Sweden won this game 2:0. Landeskog´s goal was the winning one.
