Team captain Aaron MacKenzie returns and Cutthroats bring on Garett Bembridge.
Aaron MacKenzie returns for his second year on the ice with the Denver Cutthroats. Defenseman MacKenzie showed great leadership last season, playing 20 games with 4 goals, 6 assists, and 10 penalty minutes. His ambition and fortitude in the rink earned him the title of team captain during the Cutthroats’ inaugural season and MacKenzie will continue to carry the “C” throughout this upcoming season. “We are fortunate to have a quality hockey player and leader in the Denver Cutthroats organization as well as an ambassador to the community,” said Denver Cutthroats Head Coach Derek Armstrong. “MacKenzie will continue to be the team’s captain and a top end defenseman in this league.”
Suiting up with MacKenzie for the Cutthroats this season is right winger Garett Bembridge. After playing three years in Europe, Bembridge joined the Central Hockey League’s Wichita Thunder towards the end of the 2011-12 season. He played 13 games in the CHL playoffs with 1 goal, 1 assist and 2 penalty minutes. “The Denver Cutthroats are pleased to announce the signing of Garett Bembridge,” said assistant coach Brad Smyth. “Garett is a skilled right winger who brings a wealth of experience from different levels of professional hockey around the world. He will provide offensive production and make other players around him better.” The Cutthroats will begin the 2013-14 season on October 18 against the Tulsa Oilers at the Denver Coliseum.
