The American Hockey League announced the 2013-14 schedule this afternoon, which will see Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters play the first of 38 home games on Friday, October 4th against the Abbotsford Heat at 7:30 p.m. Of the team’s 38 games at Quicken Loans Arena this coming season, 28 of those will be weekend dates, including 15 Friday night games and 11 on Saturday.

As part of the 76-game schedule format, the team will open and close the season at home, including playing five of their last six games of the regular season at The Q. The Monsters will see five three-in-threes over the course of the season, including opening weekend. The team will also compete in 20 back-to-backs in 2013-14.

The home schedule features one doubleheader with the Cleveland Cavaliers; the Monsters will host their annual “School Day Game,” presented by Castaway Bay, at 10:45 a.m. on February 25th, followed by the Cavs facing the Toronto Raptors at 7:00 p.m. The longest home stand of the season will be four games, twice (February 21st-26th; April 10th-15th). The longest road trip will see seven games played from March 26th to April 6th.

Fans can look forward to the same fun, value-packed entertainment at Monsters games this season that they have come to expect during the team’s previous six years at The Q, including:

• EVERY WEEKDAY: College ID Night, presented by RTA and WMMS 100.7, returns in 2013-14: special $6 tickets with a valid college ID. There will be nine Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night games this season.

• EVERY THURSDAY: Thirsty Thursdays, also presented by RTA and WMMS 100.7, are back for the third straight season in 2013-14: featuring $2 select draft beers and $5 margaritas. There are six Thursday night games this season.

• EVERY FRIDAY: Dollar Dog Fridays, presented by Sugardale and Pepsi, is one of the most popular promotions every season and will return for 2013-14: hot dogs and sodas for just $1 each; PLUS free postgame open skate, presented by Hudec Dental. There are 15 Friday night games this season.

New this year is the Kids Eat Free promotion, where the first 1,500 kids at both Sunday home games of the season (March 23rd and April 13) will receive a free kids meal – featuring a hot dog, chips and soda.

The two Sunday games, plus Saturday, October 5th and Saturday, December 28th, are also Kids Days, presented by Castaway Bay. The first 1,000 kids to each of the four Kids Day games will receive a free Castaway Bay day pass.

The 2013-14 home schedule will feature seven specialty jerseys, five of which are new this season:

Ugly Holiday Sweater Night” (NEW!) – December 21st; fans are invited to wear their ugliest holiday sweater to the game, when the Monsters will be wearing their own ugly hockey sweaters (jerseys);

Cleveland Rocks Night” (NEW!) – January 25th; the team will be wearing the jerseys from their “Frozen Frontier” outdoor game in Rochester the previous month;

Special Olympics Tribute Night” (NEW!) – February 8th; the Special Olympics logo and colors will be incorporated into the team’s jerseys; through the Monsters Community Fund, partial proceeds from the jersey auction that night will go back to Special Olympics;

Neon Night” (NEW!) – February 21st; the players will be rockin’ the current trend of bright-colored neon in their jerseys for the night;

Monsters March for Babies” (March of Dimes) (NEW!) – March 7th; the team’s jerseys will feature the logo and colors of March of Dimes; through the Monsters Community Fund, partial proceeds from the jersey auction that night will go back to March of Dimes;

Pink the Rink” (it’s back!) – March 21st; players will be wearing the traditional pink in honor of breast cancer awareness; through the Monsters Community Fund, partial proceeds from the jersey auction that night will go back to breast cancer awareness organizations;

Autism Awareness Night” – April 11th; the traditional autism awareness colors will be incorporated into the team’s jerseys; through the Monsters Community Fund, partial proceeds from the jersey auction that night will go back to autism awareness organizations;

Among the many free giveaways this coming season, there will be several brand-new, never-before-seen at Monsters games items, highlighted by a Monsters bobblehead of Cleveland’s own, Joe Haden, on February 22nd at “Football Night.” Other new giveaways will include: Stache on a Stick on “Movember Night” (presented by Parma Community General Hospital) – November 22nd; Monsters piggy bank – February 1st; Neon Monsters sunglasses on “Neon Night” – February 21st; and a Fathead Tradeable on “Salute the Fans Night” – April 19th.

Of course Cleveland fans can also look forward to returning popular annual promotional nights, such as: “Pink the Rink Night” (breast cancer awareness) – March 21st and “Pucks & Paws” bring your dog to the game – April 13th.

Single game tickets for the 2013-14 season will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, September 4th at 10:00 a.m. A special presale for Monsters Hockey Club members will begin soon. Single game tickets are available NOW for Opening Night through a limited-time “Back to School” Opening Weekend Offer - purchase tickets for Opening Night and receive an equal amount of FREE tickets to the Saturday, October 5th game.
