Burgundy/White, Cuts & Pre-season

Burgundy/White, Cuts & Pre-seasonThe Avalanche training camp concluded on Sunday with the annual Burgundy/White game, finishing 3-1 for team Burgundy.

Goal scorers were Colin Smith, Jamie McGinn and Brad Malone for the winning squad, as well as Bryan Lerg being the lone scorer on team White; scroring in the last minute after pulling their goaltender to avoid the shutout. Shootouts followed as per usual with Landeskog being the only player to find the back of the net, while Nathan MacKinnon, Alex Tanguay, P.A. Parenteau, Ryan O’Reilly and Matt Duchene missing their attempts. In an interview following the game, Patrick Roy praised the play of youngsters Kieran Millan, Chris Bigras and Geertsen. However he showed displeasure in a few areas: “There’s things that I have a little bit of concern of is how we’re gonna manage our games, sometimes it our decisions with or without the puck I think we’re a little too high risk. I understand it was just the burgundy and white game but I mean, these are things we saw also last year in the games I've been watching and we’re gonna have to start talking about those things.”

The organization proceeded with their first cuts today, reassigning the following players back to Lake Erie:

LW CHEEK, Trevor
LW DESJARDINS, Gabriel
D MAGGIO, Daniel
D MOFFIE, Lee
D TAM, Mikaël
G MILLAN, Kieran
G PATTERSON, Kent

And the following three players to their junior teams:

C BLANDISI, Joseph – Ottawa (OHL)
C CLARKE, Michael – Peterborough (OHL)
D DONNELLY, Dillon – Québec (QMJHL)

Lastly, Joey Hishon and David Van der Gulik whom both missed training camp due to injuries, will be reporting to Lake Erie once they are cleared to play. It was reported by Rick Sadowski that Hishon skated hard after Saturday’s workouts and is still day-to-day with a groin injury. It is also worth checking the Coral online betting odds for the upcoming fixtures that involve the Avalanche's.

Further cuts should be announced Wednesday, after the first pre-season game of the season against Anaheim. The game will not be televised, however a radio feed will be available on the Ducks’ website.
