Red Wing Hate

Remember when is was okay to hate?

As a kid you are supposed to be taught love and compassion. To learn to accept all other types of human beings. That everyone has a right to their own opinions and beliefs. I was raised like this and believe it with all my heart. Except for one little black sliver of hate. That hate is directed to the Detroit Red Wings.

I think every Avs fan that started in 90’s and grew up with that rivalry has it. When walking down the street and I see someone wearing Wings gear. I will stop in my tracks for a second. I quickly decide if I want to engage in a random chirpfest with a stranger. Often I just glare as I pass by them.

In recent years it has not been worth engaging in debate with Wings fans for one reason. They have been better. Not just a little bit better either, a lot better than the Avs in recent years. As much as it pains me to say it is true.

With this new era of the Avalanche in swing maybe now we can get back on equal ground. I can go back to heated debates with random Wings fans. I want to be able to use facts and statistics as defence for the Avalanche not just passion. Tonight begins hopefully a new era of Wing hate.

It will be hard to keep this dying rivalry going now with the Wings in the east. It doesn’t help that it hasn’t been an on ice rivalry for some time. Tonight hopefully we see the old passion return. A good old hockey game with slick goals and awesome saves. Big hits and maybe a good fight,not a staged fight. Of course most important of all an Avs win.
