Welcome Talbot

This one fan loves the trade.

So I meant to share my opinion on the Maxime Talbot trade before any games happened. Personally for me I don’t see a real pure winner in this trade. I see moves both teams felt they needed to make. I do however absolutely love the move to acquire Talbot. (Also at this point in the short term it would be a win for the Avs with Downie concussed.)

This has been said to death at this point but Steve Downie is a loose cannon. He can be a game changer there is no doubt about that. Not always in the GWG type way sadly. He has a bad history with referees meaning he gets penalized a lot quicker and is watched harder. He has a bad unpredictable temper that is hard to control. His injury history isn't huge but has been growing lately. He has a suspension history as well.

All that being said what fan doesn’t love having Downie on their team. He is a heart and soul warrior who fights for his teammate (sometimes with his teammates) no matter what. He has more scoring touch than people give him credit for. He will be missed by Avs fans there is no doubt as can already be seen from the public outcry. Now some people are saying this is the worst trade since the Johnson trade or since the Anderson trade.

Talbot is a great guy to have on any team. He may not have the offensive up side of Downie but he does have so many things Downie doesn’t have. He has control and will take so many less penalties than Downie. Not only will he take less but he will bring so much more to an already awesome PK that the Avs have going right now. He is loved in any dressing room he goes into. Talbot is a great team guy if you don’t believe me go and watch HBO 24/7 Flyers/Ranger to see. If you watch that and don’t fall in love with having Talbot nothing I can say will change that.

He also is veteran with playoff experience. Not just playoff but cup winning experience, Clutch cup winning experience scoring the GWG in the finals for Pittsburgh against Detroit. Anyone who causes the Red Wings to lose the cup should automatically be an Avs fan favorite. He is the type of guy you want when in the playoffs. He will play smart and play hard for the team. He will keep the other younger guys level and focused. The Avs looked posed to make the playoffs this year and Talbot is a guy you want there.

That all being said his play will determine how most fans feel about him. For me I am already won over. Welcome to the team Talbot love having you.
