Postgame thoughts: Islanders

Postgame thoughts: IslandersGetting Giggy with it...

So enthusiasm is high, people are talking about the way the Avs came back, about the fire, about how Giggy was awesome, about the "come back kids". Well, they shouldn't be called that, they should be called the "we should've won that damn game against the 2nd worst team in the league by a huge margin, without breaking a sweat" kids.

That was an atrocious game for about 40 minutes. The Islanders! Come on... What's next, struggling against Columbus? To be fair, the hockey gods weren't favoring the Avs, but still...

Another topic of conversation regarding this game is the timeout. Sacco was so out of it, that O'Brien took it upon himself to call it and to talk to the players. If I were the coach and that happened to be, I'd be to embarrassed to face the players again. Apparently, Sacco is enjoying the last year as an Avs coach. Because after the way he handled the team this season and the last he'll get a new contract the management is worse than I thought. They're also worse if they keep that promoting from within crap going on.

Replacing Sacco with Quinn or Lefebvre won't change much. Quinn was good last years with the Monsters, making the playoffs, but now it looks like it was a fluke. And Lefevbre is responsible for the PK. Enough said... Also they both have exactly zero experience as a headcoach at NHL level.

Back to the game against the Islanders. Giguere truly was magnificent. You can't fault him for any of the goals against him and he made a ton of good saves. This is what a great backup looks like. If only Varly would return to his start of the season form. Or if the defense would play like it's supposed to... Although, to be honest, Wilson is playing way beyond expectations. Some were saying he won't even be a top 6 defender in our team and look at him now! He's back to his massive hitting ways and has a very nice +5 (best in the team), also 9 points, 2nd to Quincey among D-men.

Tonight the team faces the Flames and so far it's not been good against them. So we'll see if something changed with this win. My guess? Not as long as Sacco's there.
