Denver won’t host an outdoor game

Denver won’t host an outdoor gameColorado won’t be playing an outdoor game in Denver next season.

The Colorado Avalanche won’t be playing an outdoor game in Denver next season per the Denver Post. According to other reports, there’s a strong chance the Avs will be hosting the Winter Classic during the 2015/16 season.

Next year’s Winter Classic will be played in Washington. Avs had a theoretical chance of hosting another outdoor game just months after that as a part of another project – The Coors Light Stadium Series, but likely chose to wait a season for the Winter Classic.

The biggest difference between the Coors Light Stadium Series and the Winter Classic is prestige. The Stadium Series games are just regular games played outdoors, while the Winter Classic is a much bigger event, which includes an alumni exhibition game. For instance, a Detroit – Colorado Winter Classic would draw a lot of fans.

The Coors Light Corporation is based in Colorado and thus the chance of Denver hosting an outdoor game is very high, even if the Winter Classic shouldn’t take place there.

Which team would you like for the Avs to face in an outdoor game?
