Avs continue road trip vs Hurricanes

Avs continue road trip vs HurricanesThe official game preview Carolina Hurricanes vs Colorado Avalanche.

Season series: The Colorado Avalanche earned a 4-3 win against the Carolina Hurricanes at Pepsi Center on Nov. 22. Colorado rallied from a two-goal deficit and Zach Redmond scored what proved to be the game-winner with 1:35 remaining in regulation.

Avalanche team scope: Colorado saw its three-game winning streak end when it opened a five-game road trip with a 2-1 loss at the Washington Capitals on Monday. Alex Tanguay scored and Semyon Varlamov made 36 saves, but Alex Ovechkin broke a 1-1 tie on a power play late in the second period and the Avalanche couldn't get the tying goal in the third.

"We had to respond [to Washington's second period], obviously, we were not happy about the second period," Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said. "We had to have a better turn and I thought our effort was there in the third. Obviously, we couldn't find a way to score that big goal to tie the game, but we had a lot of good chances and their goalie made some good saves."

Hurricanes team scope: Carolina has earned points in back-to-back games, but is coming off a 5-4 shootout loss at the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. But the Hurricanes received some good news that same day when they learned defenseman Justin Faulk would represent them at the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game. The 22-year-old has seven goals and 17 assists in 42 games.

"He's going to be an anchor for this team for a long time, and that's key. A big congrats to him," center Eric Staal told the Hurricanes website on Monday. "I'm excited for him to enjoy that opportunity, and we're lucky to have him with this squad."
