Postgame thoughts: Devils

Postgame thoughts: DevilsAnother Eastern opponent goes down.

Obviously, the Eastern Conference is where the Avs should play. They thrive against them. After a game that almost bored me to death against the Stars, it seemed that aliens took over their bodies in one of their better game this season. It wasn't a 60 minutes effort, but for the most of the time the Avs were in control. Varlamov was good, breaking the .900 save percentage barrier again, the defense was good and the offense was spectacular, with 6 goals, something that didn't happen in a long time.

Elliott is still burning hot, but he may be on that call up high some "experts" are talking about. Either way, he's on his way to become a very good player, it's up to him if he can keep it up.

But even after that good game, I'm not sold on this team. They show they can do it at times, but they're not consistent. So after that good game you can bet good money it won't happen again too soon. We're used to it by now. Unfortunately, so are they. And this time Stewart and Shattenkirk are coming back to town. I don't know about Shatty, but I bet Stewey is hell bent on proving the management they were wrong in trading him. Truth be told, he can do that just by staying at home. Johnson will take care of the rest, if he plays.

That was a little mean, but I don't see Johnson offering the Avs anymore than he did for the Blues. He'll probably be waiting his whole career to have that "breakout season". I don't know why, but I just don't see it happening. Plus, I hate guys that are all talk and nothing else. EJ should be a little more humble and take a lesson or two from the Duke and O'Reilly.

I just hope that tonight the Avs prove me wrong and get two wins in a row. Not that it would make a believer out of me, I'm too pessimistic and jaded, but I'd sure like to see a little fire. Not from Sacco. Him I'd like to see fired. See what I did there? With the play on words? Not very smart, I know, but give me credit for trying.
