On Thursday, Modo Hockey retired the jersey of one of its most famous players. Before the game against Frolunda, Modo held a jersey retirement ceremony for former Avalanche legend and current assistant general manager Peter Forsberg. Forsberg played a total of 224 for his hometown club. He began his professional career after rising through Modo’s juniors ranks in 1990 and went overseas in 1995. Forsberg got to play in Sweden once again during the 2004-2005 lockout. Forsberg returned back home for the 2008-2009 season. He played one more season for Modo, before attempting an unsuccessful NHL comeback in 2010. After a short video detailing his career, Forsberg got a loud applause from the stands filled with fans holding banners with the number 21. Modo fans also had a large banner showing a young Forsberg with a Modo hat. Forsberg became the sixth player in Modo history to have his jersey raised to the rafters of the Fjallraven Center.
