First-period goals by Dustin Brown and Kyle Clifford led the Los Angeles Kings to a 4-0 victory against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday in the annual Frozen Fury preseason game at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Brown scored at 8:56 of the opening period, converting a passout by Dwight King. Clifford stuffed a shot past Avalanche goalie Reto Berra at 15:00 for a 2-0 lead.

Trevor Lewis scored 5:17 into the second period and Marian Gaborik had a third-period goal for the Kings (4-1-1), who outshot the Avalanche 28-6 through two periods.

Jonathan Quick made 14 saves for Los Angeles, which opens its regular season at home against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 7.

Berra made 28 saves for Colorado, which finished the preseason 1-4-1. The Avalanche begin the regular season against the Minnesota Wild at Pepsi Center on Oct. 8.
