Season series: The Winnipeg Jets won three of five games against the Colorado Avalanche last season, including all three games at MTS Centre. Jarome Iginla had three goals and two assists for Colorado. Winnipeg center Bryan Little scored five goals and had two assists.

Avalanche team scope: Colorado activated goalie Semyon Varlamov from injured reserve Sunday, and he is expected to start, according to the Denver Post. Varlamov missed six games because of a groin injury, and goaltender Calvin Pickard was returned to San Antonio of the American Hockey League. The Avalanche are 3-3-0 on a seven-game road trip following a 7-3 loss against the Washington Capitals on Saturday; Colorado has lost three consecutive games and been outscored 16-7. Forwards John Mitchell (oblique), Ben Street (chest), Alex Tanguay (knee) and Jesse Winchester (concussion) and defenseman Brad Stuart (back) are out.

Jets team scope: Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec will not dress after sustaining a lower-body injury on Saturday when Shane Doan of the Arizona Coyotes crashed into him on a drive to the net. Coach Paul Maurice did not have a timeline for Pavelec's absence. "We're still gathering information, and we'll wait until all the doctors have weighed in," Maurice said Sunday, according the Winnipeg Sun. Michael Hutchinson is expected to start. "[Hutchinson] knows he's going to get the opportunity to play a bunch of games in a row," Maurice said. "It's a little bit different mindset, but it's the one he had prior to getting to [the NHL] level." Winnipeg recalled goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from Manitoba of the AHL. Hellebuyck is 2-7-1 with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in 10 AHL games.
