WJC: Avs duo held pointlessBoth Avalanche prospects met head to head, as Finland played against Russia today.

The third game day of the 2016 World Junior Championship in Helsinki brought a head-to-head meeting between both participating Avalanche prospects, as Finnish forward Mikko Rantanen and Russian defenseman Sergei Boikov battled for Group B’s first place. Ultimately, the latter mentioned prospect was the happier one, as Russia overcame a 1-3 deficit to win the game 6-4, thanks to a four-goal second period.

Finland blew a 1-3 lead and ultimately lost 6-4

Boikov failed to get on the scoresheet, but once again played a solid game, as he didn’t record any minus points. Rantanen, who serves as Finland’s captain, finished the game with a plus-minus of -2. He also recorded a shot on goal, which game during the second frame. Boikov will return to game action tomorrow, when Russia plays Belarus. Rantanen gets to enjoy a day off, as he’ll return to action on Wednesday against Slovakia.
