WJC: Boikov solid in Russia’s winSergei Boikov was the only Avalanche prospect to play today.

Only two games were played at the World Junior Championship today, one of them involving one of the two Avalanche prospects attending the tourney. Russian defenseman Sergei Boikov played his third game at the tournament, as Russia marched to yet another victory.

Boikov and the Russians are yet to lose a game at this year's tournament

After hard-earned victories against the Czech Republic and Finland, Russia met with newcomer Belarus, who proved tougher than predicted. The Russians opened with a bang, scoring 3 goals in the opening period. Belarus cut the deficit to two early in the third, but conceded a goal almost right away, ultimately losing 4-1. Boikov was once again paired up with offensive defenseman Ivan Provorov, filling the role of the stay-at-home defender of the said pair. Boikov finished the game with 2 penalty minutes and a plus-minus of +1. After three games, Boikov’s +3 and has 3 shots on goal, along with 6 penalty minutes. The Russians will get a day off tomorrow, whereas Avs prospect Mikko Rantanen will return to action against Slovakia.
