WJC: Avs prospects will meet in finals

Both of today’s semifinal games featured an Avalanche prospect. First to hit the ice was Finnish captain Mikko Rantanen, whose team played against archrivals Sweden. Rantanen had his best game at the tournament, as he had primary assists on both Finnish goals. The Finns went on to win the game 2-1, coming back from a one-goal deficit.

Russian defenseman Sergei Boikov and his teammates squared off against the US. The Americans, much like the Swedes, held a 0-1 lead after the first, but conceded two goals in the second frame and went on to lose the game 2-1. Boikov once again failed to record a point and he was also bumped down to the third defensive pairing, playing alongside defenseman Yegor Voronkov. The finals will be a rematch for both Finland and Russia, with Russia winning their group stage meeting 6-5 in dramatic fashion.
