Blues Jackets defeat Avalanche

Blues Jackets defeat AvalancheThe official game recap Colorado Avalanche vs Columbus Blue Jackets.

Jack Johnson's deflected shot with 67 seconds left in the third period gave the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.

The defenseman's wrist shot from left point went off the skate of Colorado left wing Cody McLeod past goalie Calvin Pickard.

Columbus (17-25-4) has won two straight with rookie goaltender Joonas Korpisalo saving 70 of 72 shots in those games, including 29 Saturday.

Pickard made 19 saves for the Avalanche (22-21-3).

Brandon Dubinsky scored for Columbus 58 seconds into the first period, and Chris Wagner scored for Colorado to make it 1-1 at 4:02 of the second.

Wagner got the back of his stick on a feed from Jarome Iginla for the redirect. Defenseman Chris Bigras had an assist for his first NHL point in his second game.

Pickard, who made 27 saves against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday for his first NHL shutout, was beaten on the first shot by Dubinsky.

Columbus defenseman Ryan Murray carried the puck below the goal line, stopped short of the net, and fed Dubinsky in front for the shot that went stick-side for his ninth goal.

The Avalanche plays at the Winnipeg Jets on Monday. Columbus hosts the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.
