Avs forward one of 12 rookies to participate in NHL All-Star skills competition.
Colorado Avalanche rookie forward Gabriel Landeskog has been selected to represent the Avalanche at the 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend, the league announced today. Landeskog will be one of 12 rookies to participate in the Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Scotiabank Place (5:00 p.m. MT, NBCSN).
The 59th NHL All-Star Game will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Scotiabank Place (2:00 p.m. MT, NBCSN).
Colorado’s first-round pick (second overall) in the 2011 Entry Draft, Landeskog has appeared in all 44 games for the Avalanche this year, tallying 21 points (8g/13a). The 19-year-old leads the team in plus/minus (+9), shots (132), hits (112) and is tied for first in game-winning goals (2). Landeskog ranks first among all NHL rookies in shots and takeaways (37), while ranking second in hits and third in plus/minus.
Landeskog, the highest draft pick in Avalanche history, made his NHL debut as an 18-year-old in the season opener on Oct. 8 against Detroit. The Stockholm, Sweden native scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 12 at Columbus, becoming the youngest Swedish-born player in NHL history to score a goal.
