2017 IIHF Worlds: Day 6The summary of the sixth game day of the 2017 IIHF World Championship.

Following the fifth game day of the 2017 IIIHF World Championship, during which no Avalanche player saw game action, two Avs players played during the sixth game day – JT Compher was looking looking to follow up on his game-winning goal against Finland, while Mikko Rantanen wanted to rebound from yet another loss for the reigning runner-ups.

USA – Italy 3:0 (1:0, 2:0, 0:0)

Team USA recorded a must-win against the lowly Italians, although the score was closer than many hockey fans expected. The Americans put up 32 shots to 9 from their opponents en route to their second win in a row. Forward JT Compher didn’t get on the scoresheet, but managed to record a rating of +1 while totaling almost 15 minutes of ice-time.Finland – Slovenia 5:2 (0:1, 2:0, 3:1)

The Finns were the clear-cut favorites of the game, but found themselves down 1-0 after the opening period. The reigning runner-ups had to put a lot of effort in the game, which they ultimately won thanks to a two-goal second period and a three goals scored in the final frame of the game. Rantanen played a vital role in the Finns’ must-win game, scoring the team’s second goal, while recording an assists on the very next tally. Rantanen played over 15 minutes and recorded three shots on goal.Switzerland – Belarus 3:0 (1:0, 1:0, 1:0)
