2017 IIHF Worlds: Day 7

A total of six Avalanche players saw game action on the seventh day of the 2017 IIHF World Championship. Defenseman Andrei Mironov played against Denmark in the afternoon, while forwards Gabriel Landeskog, Carl Soderberg, Nathan MacKinnon and Matt Duchene played in the evening. Goalie Calvin Pickard was left on the bench, while Tyson Barrie was reported to have sustained a lower-body injury and will miss the remainder of the tournament.

The Russians kept rolling with yet another win thanks to a three-goal second period to beat Denmark, with Russia’s markers coming in a span of three minutes. Andrei Mironov had a TOI of 15:03 and failed to get on the scoresheet, as he’s still waiting for his point at this year’s tournament.Czech Republic – Norway 1:0 after OT (0:0, 0:0, 0:0, 0:1)

Sweden recorded a win against the feisty Latvians in large part thanks to Gabriel Landeskog, who scored the game’s game-winning goal in the opening stanza. Elias Lindholm’s third-period marker sealed the deal as the Swedes recorded a much-needed win, as this was only their second win in regulation. Sweden is hoping that goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who will join the team in the coming days, will provide a big boost to the team’s medal aspirations.
France – Canada 2:3 (1:1, 1:1, 0:1)

The French co-hosts proved a worthy opponent for Canada, as they led the Canadians up until the very end of the second period. Nathan MacKinnon extended his point streak, assisting on former Avalanche forward Ryan O’Reilly’s opening goal. Matt Duchene still hasn’t recorded a point at this year’s tournament, while Calvin Pickard was left on the bench. Tyson Barrie will miss the remainder of the tourney due to a lower-body injury sustained off the ice.
