Zadorov will make a decision in August

Zadorov and Avs still haven’t reached a deal.

Nikita Zadorov is still a RFA and it seems the negotiations between him and the Colorado Avalanche will continue in August despite earlier reports that whole situation should be done by the end of July.

“We haven’t negotiated a contract [with the Avalanche] as of yet,” said Zadorov’s agent Rolland Hedges to Eurolanche.com today. “I would think Nikita’s going to make a decision after August 2.”

During the previous weeks, various Russian sources reported the KHL’s CSKA Moscow has prepared a contract offer for Zadorov. However, the team’s GM himself denied such reports, but knowing the KHL's strategy of acquiring NHL players who can’t agree on contract terms with their NHL teams, it wouldn’t be surprising if any KHL team would have an offer for the Russian defenseman. The KHL is Zadorov’s only other option as his RFA status doesn’t allow him to talk to any other NHL besides the Avs.

Following the recent signings of RFAs Matt Nieto and Rocco Grimaldi – as BSN.Denver.com first reported – Zadorov is the last remaining Avalanche player without a contract.

Zadorov’s departure would be more bad news for the Avs this summer after Will Butcher announced via his player agent that he would test free agency, as Eurolanche.com reported today.
