Colorado in the playoffs: Day 3

The Colorado Avalanche continue their preparations for their first game of the playoffs against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night. Following Monday’s practice, the attending reporters asked team captain Gabriel Landeskog to compare this year’ team with the one, which made the playoffs in 2014. “We’re not the favorites this time. Last time, we won the division, were the second seed in the conference and were up against the seventh seed. Now, we came in from the second wildcard spot and are up against the winner of the President’s Trophy.”
In our previous recap, we mentioned that according to Adrian Dater, who spoke with a number of Avs players, everything changed following the team’s trip to Sweden. Matt Duchene was gone and Sam Girard and Vladislav Kamenev joined the team, with Girard making his Avs debut right there in Stockholm. Landeskog said that 25 players, who played together, flew to Stockholm, but that a real team flew back across the Atlantic.
Overall, Girard scored three goals and added 17 assists in 68 games for the Avs, becoming just the fourth rookie defenseman to reach the 20-point mark in his first season in Colorado. Only John-Michael Liles (34 points in 2003-04), Kevin Shattenkirk (26 points in 2010-11) and Ryan Wilson (21 points in 2009-10) managed the same feat.
Shortly after 7 pm CET, the Avs landed in Nashville, where they’ll continue to practice up until the opening game of the series.
