Colorado in the playoffs: Day 7

Colorado in the playoffs: Day 7A daily news recap from the Avalanche camp during their run in the playoffs.

On Sunday, the Avalanche held their team practice back home in Denver. Only 11 players attended the first team practice back in the Mile High City. Others were given a maintenance day, except, of course, the injured ones, with Sam Girard still among them. Per head coach Jared Bednar, Girard’s status remain day-to-day, which didn’t shed any light on the condition of the young defenseman. Bednar praised his players for their hard work and high level of competitiveness against such a tough opponent. He also criticized several rookie mistakes the team made during the first two games in Nashville, saying that they are mostly the product of the team’s lack of postseason experience, something we can all agree on.

In other news…

The San Antonio Rampage, the Avs’ AHL affiliate, wrapped up their 2017-18 season, once again failing to make the playoffs. The Rampage will become the full-time affiliate of the St. Louis Blues next season, with the Colorado Eagles, currently of the ECHL, becoming the AHL’s 31 franchise and Colorado’s main minor league affiliate.

Let’s take a quick look at how the Rampage’s affiliation with Colorado, which began in 2015, went by in numbers:

  •  A 95-108-23-2 overall record
  •  Three last-place finishes in their division
  •  No Rampage player managed to crack the top 20 in AHL scoring
  •  Andrew Agozzino recorded the most overall points in a single season, recording 44 points in 72 games

A sad statistic to finish with, the Avs’ AHL affiliate failed to make the postseason 10 times during the past 11 years.
