The story of an 11-year-old’s escape from war
His story was shared by global media around the globe, including CNN, BBC, Daily Mail, as well as celebrities like Khloe Kardashian.
A few days ago, Hassan, an 11-year-old boy, escaped from war-torn Ukraine. His mother had to put him on a train all by himself, as she couldn’t travel with him. She scribbled his brother’s cellphone number on his hand and sent him off on his long journey. When Hassan finally made it to the Slovak border, his photograph immediately made headlines all around the world. After his grueling voyage, he joined his siblings in Slovakia’s capital Bratislava.
A lot of good people didn’t hesitate and immediately began to look for ways to get Hassan’s mother and grandmother to Bratislava as well. In the end, it all worked out. Most of it was arranged thanks to the help of the Association of Christian Youth Communities (ZKSM).
Sadly, this wasn’t the first time Hassan’s family had to flee from war. His mother moved from Ukraine to live with her Syrian husband in Syria up until the beginning of the country’s civil war. While the mother and her children managed to flee, their father couldn’t…
On Tuesday evening, Hassan and his siblings were once again reunited with their mother and grandmother in Slovakia – Eurolanche arranged transport so they could finally meet. Eurolanche also gave Hassan a small gift – a Colorado Avalanche hat and face mask. Since this story was followed by so many people across the globe, we are sure that the family will be provided with all the help they need.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who helped Hassan and his family. We would like to thank all state employees, organizations, as well as volunteers for the help and solidarity they offer refugees coming to Slovakia.
