Landeskog joins Duchene in Sweden

Gabriel
Landeskog is the third Avalanche player who signed „the lockout contract” in
Europe. Landeskog will join his former team Djurgarden this week. He spent part
of his junior career there before coming to Canada in 2009. Gabriel will not join
Matt Duchene in the elite league. As we reported, Duchene
signed two month contract with the Frolunda team yesterday. Duchene and
Landeskog will fly to Sweden on Thursday, probably together.
Eurolanche contacted Djurgarden PR office. They firstly
did not confirm the contract, but did it later in the afternoon. Landeskog´s
agent Peter Wallen was the first
person who confirmed the contract between his client and the Swedish team. “This is not something that came up this
morning. We have been in the contact with Djurgarden for several days. The
contract is for two months,” said Wallen in the call to Eurolanche. “Gabriel is sleeping in Colorado now. The
only missing out is awaking him up. We have agreed on the proposal. He has not
signed the original contract yet, but there are no differences between it and
the proposal.”
Landeskog played his first game in the Swedish Elite
league for Djurgarden in the season 2008/09. He was only 16 years old. He had
appeared in the three Elite games totally. At the end of the last season
Djurgarden was relegated to the 2-tier league after 35 years in the Elite. Team
is based in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. Djurgarden has won 16 national
championship and use two hockey stadiums for the playing.
Douglas
Murray of San Jose Sharks is the first NHL player who signed the contract with
Djurgarden. Older brother of the Avalanche prospect Calvin Pickard, Chet, is the goalie there.
First Avalanche player who has decided to play
somewhere during the lockout was Semyon
Varlamov. He currently plays for the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. He appeared in
one game and saved 38 of 39 shots.
