Fans say goodbye by singing Landy´s name

Fans say goodbye by singing Landy´s nameThe interview with Landeskog after his last game in Sweden.

As we reported on Monday´s night here, Gabriel Landeskog has decided to leave Sweden and come back to Denver, Colorado. We will have more news about his decision and his possible future during the lockout tomorrow. For now, our Swedish correspondent, Robin Fredriksson, translated the interview with Landy. The interview was done immediately after Landeskog´s last game for the official website of the Djurgarden www.difhockey.se. Landeskog assisted on two goals and scored the third one in the win 3:0.

Gabriel, it was a decent ending for you in Djurgarden, wasn’t it?

Haha. Maybe a bit dramatic too, but liked it. It was nice and important to finish off with a win. And I have no complains about how it turned out.

What did you think of game?

It felt like we took charge of the game straight away and throughout the first and second period, but when we finally got our goal we started to relax a bit too much and allow them to get back in the game. But in the third period I think we got back to playing like we should and have the courage to keep playing offensively. But it was a good team effort and Chet Pickard got his shutout and that is very important to him.

Were you worried when you were only up one goal, and how important was it to get the second?

Yeah, even when the game was at 0-0. But we always play better when we get the first goal. And the second goal allowed us to breathe a little and just play our game fully at the end of the third. The ending was a bit too dramatic maybe but I don’t complain.

And how about you, to finish off with one goal and two assist?

Well yeah, of course it felt good for my confidence since I haven’t been putting up points lately, especially when it comes to scoring goals. So it felt good to finally score even though it was an empty netter and obviously extra fun of course to score on home ice in front of the fans.

Yeah, they were singing your name for a few minutes in the third.

Haha, it’s a bit hard to grasp. I remember when I was a kid and went to the games and they were singing about Johan Garpenlöv and now a few years later about me. The fans are making it difficult to leave. They surely are.
