Landeskog under heavy criticism

Magnus Nystrom is a Swedish journalist who works for the
Expressen media. According to our friends in Sweden, it seems he does not like Gabriel Landeskog at all. For example,
at last year´s World Championship, he wrote that Landy can never win Lady Byng
Memorial Trophy in the NHL. Eurolanche member Robin Fredriksson translated another try to criticize
Landeskog by the above mentioned journalist.
Landeskog disappoints me.
Most of all I am really disappointed in Gabriel Landeskog. The only
thing he has proven during this tournament is that he is still 20 years old and
has a lot to learn. I am worried that the C and all the credit he has received in
Colorado went to his head. He treats his C like it is a gold medal but he
must realize that it is now the time, to show hard work. The expectations are much higher now. His job is to make his team better. He failed at that during the
lockout in Djurgarden. He failed at that during this season at Colorado. And he
has failed at it so far with the Team Sweden.
During the Worlds Landeskog´s body language says "Here I am, I am the
best, and when I score I do not even want to celebrate" instead of saying
"I'm here to help my team to win". After Sweden´s horrible performance
against Slovenia Landeskog also did call out the fans like a brat. They were
booing the Swedish team after their performance against Slovenia.
And after that he went out to night clubs the same evening enjoying himself very much. But he can do that if he wants to. I am not someone who demands that players go to bed early every night and eat oatmeal every morning. But message he sends out is that he thinks it is okay to go out to clubs with a
few teammates after Team Sweden´s performance against Slovenia.
If Henrik Zetterberg had been
here, I don't think anyone would went out to nightclubs. Zetterberg would
have demanded that everyone practice even though it was their day off on
Sunday.
If Colorado´s new head of hockey operations Joe Sakic sees Landeskog with the same body language he has shown
here in Sweden, and a captain that does not respond better to getting booed,
than he will give the C to a different player. I do admire Landeskog for the
tough road he has taken to the NHL and his talent and impudence.
Eurolanche´s note: The Swedish journalist did not ask Landeskog for a comment.
