Avs beat Canes

The Avs face off against the Carolina Hurricanes this year in the first of two games. The first game is a home one for the Avs.
The Avs get on the board first at 11 minute mark of the first. Erik Johnson gets his second goal of the year. That is now two more then he scored all last year. Paul Stastny and Alex Tanguay assisted on the goal. The Avs get on the board again late in the first. Matt Duchene gets his team leading 7 goal of the season. Line mates Ryan O’Reilly and Steve Downie get the helpers. The first period ends with the Avs up 2-0. The Avs leading in shots after one 18-8.
The Canes get on the board quick in the second period just 12 seconds in. The Avs strike back midway in the second period to make it 3-1. Tanguay gets his third of the season. Duchene gets his second point of the night with a assist. Andre Benoit gets his fifth assist of the season. He is proving to be a good discount pickup by the Avs so far. Jamie McGinn took the only penalty of the period on the Avs. The Avs killed part of it off. The Canes get penalized late. The second ended 3-1 with the Avs still on the PP to start the third. The Avs still hold the shot lead 26-14 after two.
The Avs score early in the third on the PP. Duchene gets his second goal of the night. The Canes get a goal back not to long after to make it 4-2. The Canes get a PP. Varly makes a huge save on Semin to keep it
