Peter Forsberg: I love being a dad

He is Swedish hockey’s biggest star in history. Now, Peter Forsberg, former Colorado Avalanche star tells to swedish newspaper DT about his life after his playing days, mostly about being a father to one-and-a-half year old Lennox. Our friend Robin Fredriksson from Sweden translated some quotes from this interview for Eurolanche.
In February of 2011, Peter Forsberg announced his retirement from the game of ice hockey at an emotional press conference in Denver. A year later, his son Lennox was born and a new chapter started in Peter’s life. “I love being a dad. I have wanted a son for a long time. He is wonderful”, says Foppa.
About free weekends: “He is wonderful. I'm enjoying it. The best part about not playing anymore is to finally have a free weekend. I haven't had that for 40 years. Now you can have a nice dinner and enjoy Friday nights”.
Peter also gets to spend time with his son Lennox, who he had with his fiancée Nicole in June, 2012: “He is at preschool during the days and we usually take turns to pick him up and drop him off if we don't do it together. It really is a blast being a dad. The kid has some energy!"
Is the son going to be given the chance to follow in his father’s footsteps? "He is going to get the chance, of course he is. I'm not going to stop him if he wants to play hockey. He has enough energy already”.
The Forsberg family is living in Stockholm, but Foppa is going to do everything in his power to keep the MODO-tradition in the family: “I have said he can't play for a team who is going to play against MODO, he can't play for AIK or Djurgården here in Stockholm. He must become a MODO-fan!"
If Lennox, however, doesn't have any interest in playing hockey, it's alright with Peter as well. "It won’t be a problem. Everyone doesn't have to be a hockey-nut and into sports like myself. But he runs around kicking the football here at home, so I guess it isn't impossible for him to get into it”.
