Avs at the Olympics on first day

All national teams are now ready with full rosters. NHL players landed in the Russian city of Sochi on Monday. After a few hours and one-night break, they were ready for the first practices and taking team photos on Tuesday.
The biggest news about the Colorado Avalanche players so far has been naming of Gabriel Landeskog an alternate captain of Team Sweden. Thanks to our correspondent Robin Fredriksson, Eurolanche was the first English-writing media that informed about this fact and brought Landeskog´s comments. "To be honest I was quite shocked by it. But on the other hand I want to thank the coaching staff for putting the faith in me. And of course it’s a huge honor. Now I just need to not take anything for granted and prove that I deserve it,” said Landy.
Colorado Avalanche captain will start his participation at the Olympics on the first line with Henrik Zetterberg and Alexander Steen. He will be the first Avs player who played a game at the tournament.
Tuesday´s top event was definitely a press conference of team Russia. All nominated players and coaches attended it and answered on the media questions. Semyon Varlamov was there too of course and looked very happy. For now, it isn´t still clear if he will be in the net in the opening Russian game or it will be his colleague Sergei Bobrovsky. Additionally, Varlamov was named the 5th best goalie of the tournament according the NHL.com.
After very hard recent NHL games, this Olympics could be another challenge for Matt Duchene who couldn´t find a way back to his game in the last weeks. Avalanche scoring leader is supposed to be a healthy scratch according what we could see at the Canadian practice. Duchene slightly appeared on the power play situation, but was mainly stated as an extra player together with Martin St. Louis.
We know the minimum information about Paul Stastny so far. Team USA hasn´t revealed any key news regarding the Avalanche center. What we know for sure is that he practiced with Max Pacioretty and Ryan Callahan in the line.
