The NHL announced Monday that Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been named the third star in the league's "Three Stars" for the week ending April 6.

Varlamov compiled a 3-0-1 record with a 1.42 goals-against average, .950 save percentage and one shutout this past week to help the Avalanche (50-21-7, 107 points) move two points ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks (45-19-15, 105 points) for the No. 2 seed in the Central Division.

He opened the week by making 24 saves in a 3-2 overtime win at the Columbus Blue Jackets last Tuesday before making 29 stops and denying all three shootout attempts he faced in a 3-2 triumph over the New York Rangers on Thursday night in Denver. He closed the week with 30 saves in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.

This is Varlamov's second Three Stars of the Week honor of the season and the second in his career with the Avalanche. He was named co-second stars with fellow Avs goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere for the week of Oct. 7-13.

For the Avs, it is the team's third weekly honor of the season as Matt Duchene earned third star accolades for the week ending Dec. 22.

Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers was the named league's first star this week while the Montreal Canadiens' Max Pacioretty was named the third star.
