Roman Will: NHL for the first time

At the end of the last week Roman Will successfully finished his first NHL training camp. He also appeared in the Burgundy/White Game played by the Colorado Avalanche players. In the third period Will made his debut in the Avs sweater. “It wasn’t easy, because after the warm-up I was sitting on the bench for two periods. Anyway, everything was fine and I enjoyed it,” said Will who was beaten once, but his team won 4:3.

The Czech goalie was in the net also for the following shutouts. “MacKinnon scored into the five hole over my glove. It’s really hard to play against him, he is very skilled,“ Will said. After the game Roman travelled with the half of team to Anaheim for a pre-season game against the Ducks. Avs lost the game 0:4. Calvin Pickard was in the net for the whole game. “It was just a pre-season game, but there were so many people and it was exciting to see it. Everything is professionally organized, players’ services, etc…,“ said excited goalie who flew for the first time with a team plane. “Everything there is like in the first class. Big leather seats, a lot of space, menu with four kinds of food to choose from, sushi, everything’s fresh, two poker tables,… Team logos are everywhere, even on the napkins,” said Will. Roman also “survived” two rounds of players scratching.
He knows it awaits him too, but he wants to stay in Denver as long as possible. Team has now four goalies including Will, Pickard, Semyon Varlamov and Retto Berra. “When someone is going to the affiliate team, the Avs invites and informs him about it. He receives the plane ticket, so he doesn’t know anything before it happens. I have no idea if I will play in the pre-season, but I am happy that I am still with the team. It’s incredible,“ concluded Will, who’s right now with the Avs in Montreal, where they will play against the Canadiens and tomorrow again, but this time in Quebec. According to Roman’s words, he never saw such a comfort for hockey players in the hotels as in Canada.
