2016 IIHF Worlds Summary: Day 1
A total of four games were played on the opening day of the 2016 IIHF World Championship in Russia, with two Avalanche players being involved in the action – Canada’s Matt Duchene and US forward JT Compher.

Defenseman Anton Lindholm was a healthy scratch for Sweden’s first game of the tournament.

The reigning champions are off to a great start, handing their archrivals from across the border a decisive loss. Canada’s assistant captain Matt Duchene had a hand in two goals – scoring the game’s fourth goal, while also assisting on Marchand’s shorthanded tally. Duchene finished the game with a TOI of 18:48, three shots on goal and a plus-minus of +2 and was deservedly named as Canada’s player of the game. JT Compher had a TOI of 15:04 and had one shot on goal. Calvin Pickard backed up starter Cam Talbot.
