2016 IIHF Worlds Summary: Day 2
Six games were played during the second day of the 2016 IIHF World Championship in Russia. A trio of Avalanche players was in action today – goalie Reto Berra was between the pipes for Switzerland’s game against Kazakhstan, forward Andreas Martinsen and Norway squared off against archrival Denmark and forward JT Compher faced Belarus.

Reto Berra appeared in net for heavily-favored Switzerland, who were supposed to pull off a routine win against newly-promoted Kazakhstan. Berra’s performance was mediocre at best, the Bulach native finishing the game with a save-percentage of .889 and a GAA of 2.77. Berra had one key save to keep the Swiss in the game, but wasn’t otherwise worried, as Switzerland continuously hammered the underdogs with shots on goal. Berra surrendered three goals out of four tries in the shootout, as Kazakhstan pulled of a major upset. Although Berra stopped a penalty shot in the first period, he was beaten by a shot just outside Kazakhstan’s defensive zone.
